Custom leather aprons for workshops, barbers, and BBQ.

A leather apron does the jobs cloth cannot: it shrugs off chisels and wood shavings, wipes clean of grill grease, keeps hair clippings and dye off a barber’s shirt, and looks better every year it is worn. We build custom leather aprons from full-grain cowhide for heavy bench work and retail lines, and from lighter split or chrome-tanned leather for woodworkers and barbers, with riveted cross-back straps and your logo debossed into the hide — one sample first, then bulk leather aprons from 100 pieces.

How it is made

How a leather apron is built.

Four parts decide how long a leather apron lasts. You choose each one when we make your sample.

  1. 01

Hide and weight of the leather apron

Full-grain cowhide at 1.8–2.0 mm is the heavy workshop and retail grade: dense, flat, and slow to scar. Split leather at 1.4–1.6 mm is lighter and suits everyday woodworking and barber aprons. We cut from the back of the hide and keep the belly for straps and pockets.

  2. 02

    Riveted cross-back straps

A leather apron is heavy, so it always hangs from the shoulders. Straps are 1.5 inch leather or webbing, riveted with solid brass or copper — never sewn alone — and adjust with a buckle or a roller loop at the hip. Every rivet is backed with a washer so it cannot pull through.

  3. 03

    Seams and edges

Panels are joined with a lap seam, stitched twice with bonded nylon thread, and the edges are beveled and burnished so they do not fray or catch. Weak seams are where a cheap leather apron fails first, so this is where we spend.

  4. 04

    Pockets on a leather apron

Grill cooks want one flap-covered chest pocket that keeps grease out. Woodworkers and barbers want more: a tool row at the chest, a wide hip pocket, a hammer or comb loop. We cut the pocket layout per trade, not per pattern.

The heavy workshop and premium retail grade; flat, dense, and slow to scar.

More flexible, water-resistant, wider colour range; the barber and retail favourite.

Leather apron vs canvas bib apron

Canvas is the right apron for most trades; leather is the right apron for a few. A leather apron costs several times a canvas bib and weighs two to three times as much, and it is the right choice wherever sharp tools, clippings, or grease are the daily hazard.

Where the logo goes on a leather apron.

01

Deboss at the chest

The natural leather apron mark: a brass die pressed into the hide, 2.5–3 inches, no ink to wear off.

02

Riveted brass plate

An engraved plate riveted to the bib for a shop or brand name; the premium option.

03

Hot-stamp on the strap

A small stamped mark on the strap tip or hip buckle tab.

Questions about leather aprons

Which leather is right for a workshop apron?

Full-grain cowhide at 1.8–2.0 mm for heavy bench work and retail lines that need to look the part for years. Split leather at 1.4–1.6 mm is lighter and cheaper, and it is the everyday choice for woodworking and barber use.

Can a leather apron be personalised with a logo?

Yes. Deboss and hot-stamp press the logo into the hide, laser marking gives fine detail, and a riveted brass plate is the premium option. All four outlast any ink or thread on leather.

How do you care for a leather apron?

Wipe it down, let it dry away from heat, and condition it two or three times a year. Never machine wash. A full-grain leather apron treated this way lasts a decade in a shop.

What is the minimum order for custom leather aprons?

One sample first, then bulk leather aprons from 100 pieces. Because leather is cut from natural hides, bulk lead time runs 25–35 days and colour varies slightly from piece to piece.
