Pinafore cross-back of the Japanese apron
The straps are the defining feature: 3–4 inches wide, cut from the body fabric, crossed at the back and sewn into the back panel or the side seams. No hardware means nothing to lose, nothing to rust in the wash, and a clean silhouette from behind.

Body and side panels
A Japanese linen apron is wider than a bib apron and wraps the hips: the side panels extend 6–8 inches past a standard bib on each side. Length runs 34–38 inches, to the mid-shin, with a deep double-fold hem that gives linen its weight.

Side pockets
Two deep patch pockets sit low at the hips, angled slightly so hands drop in naturally. They are the only pockets on a Japanese apron by tradition; a chest pocket can be added but changes the look.

Washed linen finish
We garment-wash the linen after sewing so the Japanese apron arrives soft, pre-shrunk, and slightly rumpled. Colours are yarn-dyed or piece-dyed to a Pantone reference and confirmed with a lab dip before bulk.
