The strap ends fasten with a brass or matte-black clip, a D-ring pair, or a simple knot through a fabric loop. Clips are fastest to put on; D-rings survive the most laundering; loops are cheapest and quietest on a heritage-look cross back apron.

The bib on a cross back apron is usually cut a touch narrower than a neck-strap bib, 26–30 inches, because the straps hold it flat against the chest rather than letting it hang. Body length runs 30–34 inches; a shorter 28 inch version suits counters.
